Ron Berger’s classic work An Ethic of Excellence (2003) was released nearly 25 years ago, and yet its content feels even more refreshing and pertinent now in the 2020s. As one of the most celebrated American educators of the 21st century, Ron Berger at the time of writing this classic had already spent 25 years teaching, worked with the Expeditionary Learning Outward Bound school network, Harvard Project Zero, and the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. He also kept illustrious company, gaining direct experience under and together with people such as Howard Gardner, Ted Sizer, and Ann Liebermann, among others.
